Del Mar Southside Campus New Culinary Institute and Community Center
Facility Programming and Consulting was engaged to prepare a Program of Requirements for a New Culinary Institute + Community Center. In order to best serve their expanding district, the College is in the process of planning a new South Side Campus in Corpus Christi, Texas. Phase One of proposed construction will include a new Main Building, an Academic Building, and a Culinary Institute and Community Center. The new facility will provide general academic spaces and specialized culinary laboratories. A restaurant will be included, to serve as an amenity to students, faculty and staff, and the community, and will act as a real-life classroom for culinary students. The new building will also feature a large Multipurpose Community Room to meet the needs of both the College and the surrounding community. Culinary spaces will be state of the art and if budget allows, visible from building circulation, to act as a showcase for the College. Primary functions will include: five culinary kitchens for student instruction in basic skills (production, baking, confectionery, and nutrition) with associated food storage areas, an exterior herb garden, associated 60-seat dining room, retail area for sale of student-produced food items, faculty offices and support spaces (workrooms, reception areas, breakrooms), large, sub-dividable multi-purpose room (up to 450 seats) for community use, and a variety of student study rooms, conference rooms and informal gathering areas.
